Brief Alcohol Screening Intervention for College Students (BASICS)
Thinking about your drinking? BASICS is a two session alcohol assessment and education program, scheduled two to four weeks apart, and last about 60 minutes each. All sessions are one-on-one between the student and a trained BASICS facilitator. The program is designed to assist students to examine their own drinking behaviors in a nonjudgmental environment. The goals are selected by the student and aimed to reduce risky behaviors and harmful consequences of drinking.
To see if you’re eligible, fill out this assessment. To score the assessment, write in the number that corresponds at the top of each response column with your answer. Write the appropriate number associated with each answer in the right column. Then add all numbers in that column to obtain the Total Score. If you score higher than 10, then this program is strongly recommended.
- Schedule an orientation appointment online or at the Front Desk.
- Meet one-on-one with a BASICS facilitator to learn practical strategies to reduce negative consequences from drinking.
- Return for a follow-up to check on your progress.
