CHILDREN TOO BUSY TO GO TO SLEEP

Susan Pace-Koch, BA, human development, (’04), thinks that books are the ideal holiday gift
for children. What other present has the ability
to engage children, educate them, and help
them form connections? She is helping to encourage a lifelong love of reading by not only authoring children’s books, but she has also established her own publishing company, Get Out Books, based in Concord, Calif. to help
bring books to market. Her first title, Get Out of My Head, I Should Go to Bed (Get Out Books, 2011) won the 2012 "Best Book" award from the Bay Area Independent Publisher's Association (BAIPA ) and was selected for
24th Annual Children's Book Exhibition at the
Sun Gallery in Hayward.

Macasero, BA, international studies, is adding one more title to his current list of jobs…advocate.
Using the little free time he has when not working as a freelance reporter, news correspondent, or catering sales coordinator, Macasero is beginning to share his story of what it was like battling major depression and anxiety as a young Asian American.

Alumni membership dues support outreach events and communication to all alumni, student scholarships, and programs which help
develop the University community. The cost for an annual membership is $35.
Life memberships are $450 and can be paid in five annual payments of $90.

CSUEB ALUMNA BLAZES A TRAIL AS NEW TOLEDO, OH COUNTY ADMINISTRATOR

Laura Lloyd-Jenkins, '01 B.S., '06 M.B.A., will
be chalking up a lot of “firsts” in her new role
as administrator for Lucas County in Ohio. She will be the first administrator ever hired from outside Lucas county, the first woman, and the first African-American. Lucas County officials are looking forward to her Feb. 4 start date. “I think she will work well with our work force, regional leaders, and the public,” Commissioner Carol Contrada said. Lloyd-Jenkins was selected from more than 100 applicants during the county’s five-month search.

FREMONT BANK EXECUTIVE HOWARD HYMAN NAMED 'DISTINGUISHED ALUMNUS OF YEAR'

Howard Hyman, executive vice president of Fremont Bank, has been named Distinguished Alumnus of the Year by California State University, East Bay for 2012.
Hyman, who graduated in 1979 with a degree
in psychology (minor in business
administration) from CSUEB, is a well-known contributor to local charitable causes.
The university presented Hyman with the
award at a gala Friday celebrating the investiture of the university's fifth president, Leroy M. Morishita.
“The Distinguished Alumnus award is given to an individual who reflects the university's
values by making significant achievements
in his or her field or major contributions to the community,” Morishita said. “Howard has done tremendous things in both areas, as a successful banker, a long-time member of the Cal State East Bay Educational Foundation
Board of Trustees, and a staunch supporter of public higher education in the East Bay. He exemplifies what it means to be a CSUEB alumnus through his contributions to the vitality of the East Bay.”

CSUEB ALUMNA NAMED HR MANAGER
FOR CITY OF SAN LEANDRO

Cal State East Bay alumna and former CSUEB HR Manager Latanya Bellow has been named the new human resources manager for the City
of San Leandro. She earned herbachelor's
in business administration and a master's in public administration, both from CSUEB.
Bellow, an East Bay native, has been the City
of Hayward's human resource manager for almost two years. Prior to this appointment, Bellow served the City of Hayward for nearly two years, as its Human Resources Manager.

TIMOTHY P. WHITE NAMED SEVENTH CSU CHANCELLOR

The California State University Board of Trustees today named Timothy P. White, chancellor of the University of California, Riverside, as the seventh chancellor
to lead the 23 campus CSU system,
the largest four-year public higher education system in the country. “I am humbled to have been chosen to lead the California State University system at such a transformative time," said White. "As Chancellor, I look
forward to engaging with faculty, students, staff, campus presidents and CSU trustees, along with the communities we serve, as we advance this vital system of higher education
for California's future."
