Giving to The University Library

At the heart of every great university is an outstanding library. California State University East Bay has two excellent libraries, in Hayward and Concord, which are at the forefront of supporting our unique educational mission. The libraries collect and preserve both traditional and digital information resources, they foster interactive learning, and support the University's research, publishing and grant writing efforts. The University Libraries play a major role in moving the CSU East Bay toward academic excellence.

Where might my funds be used?

Library Collections

The cost of maintaining diverse collections in support of teaching and learning continues to outpace the university's budget. Donations to support books, databases, online journals, and media keep the Libraries growing and responsive to student and faculty needs.

Special Collections

The Cal State East Bay Libraries contain many unique and rare items. The Special Collections contain materials about Marco Polo, Bay Area poetry, FDR, Hayward history, and many other disciplines. Our staff acquire, preserve, interpret, and provide access to these items. Additional funds would help us continue to digitize our treasures, purchase select resources in support of instruction, and provide fire suppression in our vaults.

Library New Technologies

The libraries supply quarterly laptop loans to more than 100 students on financial aid. But the demand for laptops, desktops, Kindle and Nook e-readers, and iPads far exceeds the libraries' ability to provide them. Gifts designated toward technology will be used to help students have ready access to the tools they need to succeed.

The Library Museum

In the coming months, the Library at Hayward hopes to install a major exhibition entitled "A Walk Through World History."  Donations to this project will assist us in creating state-of-the-art exhibits, interactive displays, and teaching aids.  We hope the museum will attract students, school children, and community users to our Library and to our campus.

Library Endowment

Creating a library endowment is the best way to ensure that our libraries maintain vibrant now and in the future. A gift of $25,000 creates a permanent fund. Named endowments are a great way to honor a loved one or a beloved professor. If you are interested in establishing an endowment, please contact Anthony Macias at 510-885-4035 or anthony.macias@csueastbay.edu.

A New 21st Century Library and Learning Commons

A long-term goal of the University is to construct a new Library at Hayward that will reflect the way libraries are used now (for group study, computing, tutoring, testing, art, and media production) and in the future. More than 2,000 students use the library at Hayward everyday. They deserve a building that reflects their aspirations and the University's commitment to innovation and excellence.

Other Areas of University Library support

Your donations can be used to support these or any one of several other library opportunities — exhibits, speakers, oral histories, scholarships for our library student assistants, or art acquisition. Join us in supporting the Libraries at Hayward and Concord; they serve as the focal point for the University and are a key component of every student's experience at East Bay.
