2015-2016 Season Auditions

The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee

Directed by: Marc Jacobs
Choreography by: Laura Elaine Ellis
Musical Direction by: Sierra Dee

The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is a long one-act musical comedy, centering on a fictional spelling bee set in a geographically ambiguous Putnam Valley Middle School. Six quirky adolescents compete in the Bee, run by three equally quirky grown-ups. An usual aspect of the show is that four real audience members are invited on stage to compete in the spelling bee alongside the six young characters. The 2005 Broadway production earned rave reviews, box-office success and was nominated for six Tony Awards, winning two including best book

Our Town

Directed by: Darryl V. Jones

Couched in the story of a fictional American small town in the early 20th Century, Our Town conveys the urgent necessity of living in the here-and-now and not being at the "mercy of one self-centered passion or another" as we navigate the labyrinth of life in an increasingly tech driven world. In song and movement, the CSUEB production will illuminate the passage of time from then to now without being about a faded glory of simpler yesteryears. After all, the "our town" of today reflects a modern, multi-cultural community where race, gender and sexual orientation are simply part of being human. Our Town is the 1938 Pulitzer Prize winning play by American playwright Thornton Wilder.
